Strong Foundations
By the end of the Foundation Stage (P1-3), children should be developing confidence in early reading, spelling, phonics, and writing. They are expected to:
Recognise and blend individual sounds (phonemes) to read simple words
Begin to segment sounds to spell words phonetically
Start to read and spell high frequency words, including common irregular ones
Form letters correctly and write simple sentences using capital letters and full stops
Build a basic understanding of rhyming words, syllables, and sentence structure
This resource is designed to consolidate these key skills and fill any gaps, making it ideal for:
Children moving into Primary 4 who may need extra reinforcement
Older children who are reluctant or struggling with reading and spelling
We revisit essential phonics, focus on building spelling confidence, and review key high frequency words to ensure children have a solid foundation for more advanced learning.
